Court, procedure & professional preparation

You should have time to ask your attorney the question you came to ask.

If the hour keeps disappearing into backstory, we can prepare the important facts and sources before the meeting. A hearing, mediation, discovery task or proposal calls for its own preparation.

Start with the question you need the meeting to answer.

Separate background history from the issue needing professional advice. Prepare concise questions, a chronology or source index and the factual gaps still to resolve. Your attorney determines legal strategy and relevance.

Understanding the procedure helps you prepare for the task.

CIC offers education around procedural posture, deadlines, statutes, court and local rules, evidence concepts, burdens and standards of proof, and what a motion or filing asks the court to decide. We can help you research and prepare informed questions. Requirements must be checked against current sources for the relevant jurisdiction.

Court, mediation and pro se preparation have different demands.

Work may include discovery organization, exhibits, witnesses, attorney packets, proposed-order questions and settlement preparation. For pro se parents, CIC supports organization, education and research literacy. CIC does not choose filings, advise on an individual legal position, tell you whether to sign or predict a decision.

Bring one question to the beginning of the conversation.

Write down the decision, explanation or advice you need from the next meeting. Then gather only the history and sources that help explain that question, while keeping the complete record available. The family-court preparation guide shows how to build that working set. If you want help applying it, a brief inquiry is enough.
